This similar two-column format extends to a second page. The size of type would be too small if you tried to fit all of this letter's information on one page. The visible "weight" of the second column gives the impression that this candidate's qualifications more than adequately meet the prospective employer's needs. If you feel that long paragraphs slow down reading of a letter, you can see that the tempo of reading across columns from left to right is quicker, which makes the format successful.
