As a second-year law student at The Long Island University School of Law, I look forward to realizing my long-held dream of practicing law. As I move toward receiving my Juris Doctor in May 2004, my career focus has remained steadfast with a strong interest in the emotionally charged world of Family Law. After careful research, I have chosen to seek a summer position with your law firm that will allow me the opportunity to further develop myself professionally.
Ideally, this position will build upon recent undergraduate internship experience working within a progressive Domestic Violence Clinic headed by the Long Island Law Service Committee.
In this position, my oral advocacy skills, technique for conducting witness examinations, and ability to effectively negotiate on behalf of clients played a vital role in achieving a favorable outcome for my client when given the opportunity to try a case in Family Court. This achievement, coupled with my experience as a Student Editor on Long Island University's Family Court Review, solidified my interest in Family Law.
Prior experience includes three years as an Administrative Assistant with The Law Offices of McLaughlin & Meyers, P.C., a position held while attending school full-time. In this capacity, I exercised strong research, communication, and problem-resolution skills, along with the ability to handle pressing assignments in the office and at the courthouse. It is with your firm that I hope to continue in this vein as I strive to further my education and develop myself professionally.
The accompanying resume illustrates well my experience, academic achievements, and community service. However, I feel a personal meeting would better convey the value I could bring to the appropriate position. I welcome the opportunity to participate in a confidential interview to discuss in person the possibility of my joining your law firm.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Andrew Hall
